C.A.V. To. Mi. Artificial Tunnel

Location

Pregnana (MI), Italy

The Pregnana project represents a complex and large-scale prefabricated structure, demonstrating Generale Prefabbricati’s capability to deliver even the most demanding infrastructure works typically executed in situ. It is the first artificial tunnel in Italy entirely built using precast technology. The design developed by Generale Prefabbricati was approved by the client C.A.V. To.Mi., under the supervision of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. The structure extends over a total length of 570 meters and consists of two parallel tunnels, each 24 meters wide. Supporting columns weigh over 70 tons each, with sections of 100×200 cm and heights of approximately 11 meters. The deck is composed of inverted T-beams placed side by side, with base width of 100 cm and height of 220 cm. The central dividing wall between the two tunnels was constructed using a wide precast element completed with in-situ casting. Cladding and finishing panels were also supplied by Generale Prefabbricati. The project was carried out using precast concrete solutions selected to ensure construction efficiency, rapid installation, and structural reliability. These solutions enabled optimization of construction phases and ensured high-quality standards throughout the execution of the project.
