GFRC

GRC or GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) is the flagship architectural product within the wide range of prefabricated elements developed by the Generale Prefabbricati Group.

Lightweight architecture, bold forms

GFRC is a cement-based material reinforced with alkali-resistant (AR) glass fibers, particularly suited for lightweight architectural façades. Its lightness is one of its key strengths, allowing the creation of highly expressive and complex architectural forms thanks to its exceptional moldability and ductility.

Lightness

Large surfaces that appear suspended, reducing weight without compromising stability and safety.

Moldability

Fluid lines, complex geometries, and sculptural details take shape with complete design freedom.

Strength

A robust core that withstands time and weather, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Finishes

Endless textures, colors, and surface treatments—each project becomes unique.

Want to discover all the features of GFRC?

GFRC is an innovative material originally experimented with in Russia around the 1940s and fully developed in the United States in the late 1970s.

GFRC elements (panels, cornices, shells, etc.) are produced using “single skin” technology, supported by specially designed metal frames sized according to architectural and structural requirements. This system transfers loads and stresses to structural anchoring points. The supporting frame is typically made of cold-formed steel profiles protected by hot-dip galvanization.

The combination of frame and skin represents the core of GFRC technology, ensuring secure anchoring to the main structure while maintaining the necessary dynamic independence of the façade surface. This approach preserves both aesthetic and mechanical performance over time, preventing cracking and ensuring seamless integration between architectural form and construction technology.
A wide range of finishes is available, including fair-faced white or grey concrete, exposed marble aggregates with light sandblasting, or textured surfaces using rubber molds (e.g., Reckli). Natural color variations can be achieved by blending selected aggregates with white cement, avoiding the use of artificial pigments.
